Carey Blackmar receives 2011 Charley V. Wootan Memorial Award
Carey Blackmar, one of Dr. Chandra Bhat’s former M.S. students, is the 2011 recipient of the Charley V. Wootan Memorial Award for the best MS thesis in North America in the field of Transportation Policy and Planning. The award will be given at the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC) banquet to be held in Washington, D.C. in January 2012. There are approximately 75 universities that are part of CUTC, which makes this award particularly competitive. Carey’s MS thesis is entitled “Comparing Transit Accessibility Measures: A Case Study of Access to Healthcare Facilities”.
Blackmar graduated from UT Austin in December 2011. She is currently an economic analyst in the transportation group at AECOM in Arlington, VA. Blackmar was funded during her studies here at UT Austin by a TxDOT project entitled “Measuring Access to Transit Service in Rural Transit Systems”. Her thesis was based to a substantial extent on this project research.
The Charley V. Wootan Memorial Awards Banquet takes place in Washington, D.C. on Saturday January 21, 2012 in the Palladian Ballroom and the Blue Room of the Omni Shoreham Hotel. The banquet will begin with the reception at 5:30 p.m. followed by the banquet at 6:45 p.m.
