Chandra Bhat Receives 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT

Dr. Bhat’s outstanding achievements inspire other students at his alma mater.

CTR is proud to announce that our director, Dr. Chandra Bhat, received the 2016 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.  This award is given each year for outstanding achievements by an alumnus of IIT Madras.  Only 123 distinguished alumni have been selected for this award from a total alumni population of over 42,000.  

In addition to helming CTR, Dr. Bhat is also director of the D-STOP (Data-Supported Transportation Operations and Planning) Center, a Tier 1 University Transportation Center sponsored by the US Department of Transportation. A Professor in Transportation Engineering, Dr. Bhat holds the Adnan Abou-Ayyash Centennial Professorship in Transportation Engineering. After obtaining the B.T. from the  Indian Institute of Technology Madras in 1985, he went on to the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University for an M.S. in 1987, then earned a Ph.D. from Northwestern University in 1991. Dr. Bhat is recognized nationally and internationally as a leading expert in the area of travel demand modeling and travel behavior analysis.
